Paula Abdul chose Billy Joel's, "And So It Goes" a solid ballad for David Archuleta to sing. Very good performance and the judges thought so as well, even a reluctant Simon. David A. is the first round winner!
His second song was the Chris Brown hit, "With You". Pretty good, but did not top the original. Paula liked it, of course, but Randy and Simon thought it really wasn't him.
David's third song was Dan Fogelberg's, "Longer". A winner, the guy can sing ballads!
I'm adorable, but is that enough to get me into the finals?
Randy Jackson picked Alicia Keys, "If I Ain't Got You". Fine job, nothing special. Simon agreed with me, while the others judges loved it.
Her second song was Peggy Lee's "Fever". Pretty good job. But, the judges thought the song choice wasn't contemporary enough.
Syesha's third tune was, "Hit Me Up". Just okay, the judges thought so too!
I'm a diva wannabe, but is that enough to get me into the finals?
Simon Cowell selected the Roberta Flack classic, "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for David Cook. Dude did the best he could with it, but not an easy song for a guy's vocal range. Randy wasn't really feeling it, but Paula and Simon loved it.
His second performance was to Switchfoot's, "Dare You To Move". It was a typical rocker from David. The judges concurred.
David's third song was Aerosmith, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing". Pretty good, still typical. Randy found his performance predictable while Paula and Simon adored it!
Can a rocker win this poppy competition?
