NANCY KERRIGAN'S BROTHER, MARK FACES ASSAULT CHARGES

Mark Kerrigan, brother of American Olympic figure skater, Nancy Kerrigan, is led in handcuffs out of Woburn District Court after his arraignment. Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to assaulting his father, Daniel Kerrigan, who died shortly after the alleged incident took place this past Sunday morning in Woburn, Massachusetts. Police found Daniel Kerrigan, 70, unconscious in the kitchen of his Stoneham property on Sunday after receiving an emergency call reporting a "sudden death".  The athlete's brother, Mark who was also at the house was hospitalized for an unspecified injury, reports the New York Daily News.  According to a police report filed in court, the 45-year-old son attacked his father during an argument about whether he could use the phone. On Monday,  he was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person and causing serious bodily injury. Daniel Kerrigan's cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Former Fugees hip-hop star Wyclef Jean is asking friends and fans to pray for the people of his native Haiti after the island was hit by three major earthquakes this afternoon.
The singer/songwriter, who often leads fundraising efforts for his homeland, took to his Twitter.com account online to alert everyone to the news as details broke across America on Tuesday afternoon.
He wrote, "Haiti just got hit with a Major Earthquake please call your family out there Now."
Less than an hour later, he followed that tweet with an update and a plea for support.
He wrote, "Tsunami watch in Haiti right now! People unite... Haiti just been hit again with a 5 point 9 earthquake! Please Pray."
The first quake was registered at 7.3 on the Richter scale, according to early estimates.
Reports suggest the triple earthquake caused the collapse of buildings, including the presidential palace and a hospital, which tumbled into a ravine.
Raymond Joseph, the U.S. ambassador to Haiti, says, "It is really a catastrophe of major proportions," before land line and mobile phone communications were cut off in the coastal capital Port-au-Prince.
The Gone Til November singer Wyclef was urging Twitter.com followers to donate money to his Yele Haiti charity organisation: "Please text 'Yele' to 501501 to donate $5 to YELE HAITI.Your money will help with relief efforts. They need our help... please help if you can."

Socialite Casey Johnson has died, aged 30. The body of the heiress to the Johnson & Johnson empire was discovered on Monday morning in Los Angeles. The tragic news comes just weeks after Johnson was arrested for grand theft. She hit the headlines last month when bisexual reality TV star Tila Tequila announced she was engaged to Johnson. Actress Brittany Murphy has died at the age of 32 after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Los Angeles home, according to a report on TMZ.com.
Murphy reportedly died early on Sunday morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived.
A source from The Los Angeles City Fire Department tells the website an emergency call was made at 8:00 am local time from a phone number listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack.
The actress, best known for her roles in Clueless and 8 Mile, was reportedly taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. (JMA/WNWCZM/IG)
